D’Moi Hodge has made history as the first Virgin Islander to be signed by an NBA Franchise.
Although not drafted during the NBA 2023 draft season, Guavaberry Media understands Hodge had signed a two way contract with the Los Angeles Lakers which will see him play with the South Bay Lakers in the G League. The LA Lakers front office signed three contracts at the end of the 2023 NBA draft with Hodge being one of the recipients.
With the draft over, teams immediately rushed to sign players that went undrafted and the Lakers wasted no time coming to terms with D’Moi Hodge - Dan Woike of LA Times.
The NBA now allows three two-way contracts, so the Lakers’ will be Castleton, Hodge and Cole Swider, who signed a two-year deal a year ago.
Two-way contracts allow NBA teams to carry two extra players in addition to the 15 on their regular season roster. These players generally bounce back and forth between the NBA and G League, but remain under team control and can’t be poached by rival franchises.
The NBA has carried over some rule changes for two-way deals that were first introduced during the 2020/21 season. Rather than being limited to 45 days with their NBA teams, two-way players are eligible to be active for up to 50 of their team’s 82 regular season games, and instead of having their salaries determined by how many days they spend in the NBA, they’ll receive flat salaries of $508,891, half of the rookie minimum.
Hodge has had an exemplary final season with the Missouri Tigers' as the second-leading scorer last season, averaging 14.7 points per game while being named to the All-SEC Tournament team. He led the team with 100 3-pointers while knocking down 40% of his attempts from behind the arc.
Hodge also broke Lynn Hardy’s single season steals record by recording 91 of his own.
D’Moi Hodge is signed with Unlimited Sports Agency which is represented by Derek Jackson, and scouted and developed through Talent Finders, an agency owned and founded by Virgin Islander Jr. Chiverton.
