Summer Sizzle BVI To Host Mental Health Workshop

Summer Sizzle BVI, the Virgin Islands annual life and style event has added mental health and wellness awareness to its growing weekend of events. 

Mental health is a growing concern across the world and has taken center stage during and post COVID-19, specifically in the medical field. 

The event will be held on Friday 28 July at the Lambert Bay Beach Resort and hosted by visiting psychotherapist, consultant, and life coach Shane Tull and Virgin Islands’ native licensed Clinical Psychologist Michelle Martin-Dowe.

About Shane M. Tull, LCSW-R

Shane Tull, LCSW-R is a clinical psychotherapist, consultant, and life coach, who, through using a diverse clinical and multicultural professional expertise with vulnerable populations, is vested in improving members of these communities’ psychosocial development. In private practice for more than 10 years, and for eight of those years, he served as a clinical psychotherapeutic consultant with Gay Men of African Descent (GMAD), provided individual and group psychotherapy. As a clinician, he provides psychological support and documentation for GMAD’s clients in need of asylum services.  

As a mental health expert, his clinical expertise was demonstrated at the US CDC’s Mental Health initiative, which provides positive outcomes in Guyana’s PUSH Program. And, as an international consultant, he has presented discussions including on motivational interviewing, disclosure, health protective behaviors, depression and suicide prevention.

 

About Michelle M.Martin-Dowe, Psy.D 

Dr. Michelle Martin-Dowe is a Licensed Clinical Psychologist and native to the Virgin Islands. Dr. Martin has worked in a variety of mental health areas including community mental health with children and adults, substance abuse, outpatient crisis centers, school counseling, and child & adolescent psychiatric residential treatment.  

Dr.Martin a graduate of Charlotte Amalie High School in St. Thomas earned her Bachelors of Science in Psychology from Florida A&M University, a Masters of Arts in Educational Psychology as well as Behavioral Science from University of Sarasota, and a Doctorate of Psychology from California Southern University. She has an intense passion for helping and working with children, adolescents, individuals, and families who are dealing with mental health issues and life situations that present struggles and challenges. Her clinical specialties include child & adolescent mental health, self-injurious behaviors, trauma, serious emotional & behavioral issues, mood disorders (depression, bipolar, anxiety), Autism Spectrum Disorders, Developmental Disorders, and Cognitive Behavioral Therapy 

Dr. Michelle Martin has over a decade of experience in Mental Health, and is the owner of wher own Psychological and Developmental practice as of March 2019 here in the BVI called Therapy 2 Thrive.  Her past experiences of work were in areas such as The Virgin Islands Department of Health, Florida State Corrections, Florida Department of Education, several residential facilities, and Crisis Prevention and Outpatient Services just to name a few.

Summer Sizzle BVI 2023 is scheduled for July 27th - 30th.
