Industrial Action Taking Grip Across Government Departments
Civil Servants and Public Officers are fed up with working conditions and treatment across the Civil Service.
Unconfirmed reports of industrial action in the Customs Department are being reported. It is understood that Customs Officers intended to strike today Wednesday 19 July, however, the information was apparently leaked to the Deputy Governor who called an emergency meeting with officers. Reports are that the Officers are in a meeting presently with the Deputy Governor David Archer and the Financial Secretary Jeremiah Frett, at Mr. Frett’s office.
Reports are that the Officers have not been paid their increments while top management has been paid theirs, in addition to also being paid their back pay. Of concern is also further training for Officers along with other needs to carry out their duty.
The officers were called last night to the emergency meeting this morning for 7am.
Less than one month ago, the Premier hosted a celebration concert to the tune of some $250,000. In announcing the concert, he said the Territory ‘was not broke’. The Premier continues to justify the blatant abuse of the people’s money by himself and his past party leader, Andrew Fahie who is now sitting awaiting trial in Miami.
On Monday, the Fire Officers at the Terrance B Lettsome airport also carried a strike due to increments, holiday pay and working conditions at the airport
