In a moving praiseful dynamic and touching ceremony held this afternoon/evening at the New Life Baptist Church, Bishop John Cline passed the baton of Christian leadership to his son Pastor Jovan Cline. Bishop John Cline has been the Senior Pastor for some 30 years, having being called in 1993 to be the Lead Pastor of then Road Town Baptist Church. In an invited statement to Guavaberry Media, Bishop John Cline expressed his gratefulness to God for the journey over the past 30 years and all that he was able to accomplish alongside his congregation not only for the Virgin Islands, but regionally as well as internationally, all the way to Africa, as well as for youth and community outreach.“ There have been ups and downs but more ups than downs.” Bishop Cline.
One of the greatest accomplishments under the leadership of Bishop John Cline has been the development of the ‘Save The Seed Energy Center’. “The facility provides a safe place for young people, family and friends to fellowship.” Bishop Cline.
The Board of Trustees, and Church congregation have embraced and endorsed the transition in leadership. The move has brought renewed excitement to the Ministry. “I knew this day would come but never thought I would be passing it on to my own son, but God orchestrated that whole thing. Sent him back to the New Life Baptist Church in 2017.” Bishop Cline as he reflected on the decision.
“It was not an easy decision, but I am convinced that it is a God move.” Bishop Cline said.
Newly installed Senior Pastor Jovan Cline, affectionately referred to as ‘Pastor Jo’ is the son of Bishop John Cline. He is 29 years of age, married and holds degrees in General Sciences with a concentration in Biology, and Psychology with a minor in Education. Pastor Cline is young and enthusiastic about service and has also founded the Rise Foundation, a non profit organisation for youth development through the arts, science and culture.
“I am honored that the trustee board of the New Life Baptist Church has given me the privilege to carry such a great mantle. I admire the body of work the church has accomplished and recognize the lives that have been uplifted because of it.” Pastor Cline said. Bishop Cline, my father, has set a great example of perseverance and prosperity for the office of ministry over the past 30 years. I am humbled to continue with God’s guidance.” He continued.
This year, churches in the BVI have seen several shifts in stewardship, while setting the example for transfer of leadership to new and younger generations. Last week the New Testament Church of God International Worship Center installed a new Pastor, ending the 25 plus year leadership of Bishop Ishmael Charles, as well as Cane Garden Bay Baptist Church will also be endorsing new, younger leadership.
Bishop John Cline intends to stay active in Ministry through an developmental advisory role not only locally but across the region.
The management of Guavaberry Media express congratulations to new Senior Pastor Jovan Cline and his wife First Lady Rossy’Maria Cline.
