Tropical Storm Watch Issued For BVI
Tammy remains a Category Hurricane as it approaches the Virgin Islands. Early this morning, the Virgin Islands were put under a Tropical Storm Watch, which means tropical storm conditions are possible within the territory.
As Tammy gets closer, we could experience gusts of wind and heavy rain. These windy conditions could make marine conditions around the territory dangerous as early as mid-morning. As the day progresses weather conditions are expected to deteriorate too. Rain amounts could potentially rise to 4 inches between now and Sunday.. Residents should also keep in mind that Tammy will pass very close to the Virgin Islands and any movement westward can increase the impacts on our territory.
At 5 am, Tammy is about 300 miles east-southeast of Road Town with winds of 80 mph and moving northwest at 9 mph.
The Department of Disaster Management urges our residents to remain alert and follow closely for updates.. Next update will be today at 12 noon or earlier if necessary.
