Information reaching our newsroom is that Wife of former Premier Dr. D. Orlando Smith is intending to throw her hat in the political ring this election cycle. 

Our newsroom reached out to the former First Lady to verify the information, “Thanks for this courtesy. I am seriously considering doing so.” - Mrs. Lorna Smith. 

Mrs. Smith is a staple within governance in the Virgin Islands. She was the Secretary and right hand of former Chief Minister H. Lavity Stoutt and has more than three decades of experience in the highest levels of public service. Lorna Smith OBE established the BVI Asia House and was a former Director of BVI Finance, and is known to be an avid fighter of the Virgin Islands both locally and internationally. 

Her announcement would come at a time when the Territory seem to be considering more youth and women in highest office in the Virgin Islands. 

Mrs. Smith is the sister of the Honourable Mark Vanterpool and is known to be affiliated with the National Democratic Party. However, she did not confirm if she is considering to contest the election as an Independent Candidate or under a party banner.
