Ole Year’s Night Celebrations Return To The BVI In All Its Splendor

It has been a few rough years for the Territory as it struggle to recover economically from hurricanes Irma and Maria in September of 2017, followed by the worldwide Covid 19 pandemic that shut travel down across the globe for almost two years. 

As the world gets back to its self, and travel is now unrestricted, New Year’s Eve, culturally referred to as Ole Year’s Night in the Virgin Islands, is back to its former glory, and then some. 

There are an abundance of ways to enjoy Ole Year’s Night across the Territory. Traditionally, families bring in the new year in church, and then join friends for celebrations. 

The BVI being the mecca for tourism that it is, also hosts some of the biggest NYE parties in the world, and is home to some of the most sought after locales for private celebrations of the ultra wealthy, such as the North Sound, Virgin Gorda. 

Celebrating Across The Territory:

As Ole Year’s Day happens to be a Sunday this year, the church celebrations will begin from 9:00 a.m.  You’re invited to freely attend any church across the Territory and enjoy the service. Most families will be having lunch after, and visitors are never left out of the scrumptious gatherings. 

Jost Van Dyke

A well kept secret? The party on JVD starts very early on in the day. The celebrations begin on the world famous White Bay with revellers who have made their way to JVD’s shores in their chartered yachts, along with day travelers from the neighboring US Virgin Islands. The Bay is abuzz all day long and filled with excitement of the year to be ushered in. 

In the evening, Great Harbour comes to life with the world renowned Foxy’s Ole Year’s Night Celebration. There, you will enjoy top deck plated dinners, buffet style dining, and a vast line up of entertainment to take through the night and into the wee hours of the morning. Tortola

On the main island of Tortola, you can dine in any fashion you’d like; from black tie to casual dining. Reservations should have been in already, but you can also try your luck. Your palate would definitely come alive at The Dove, Prime, Brandywine, Sushi Bar, Giorgio’s, Seven; along with a host of other delightful spots such as the Roti Man, Capriccios, and the Main Street Restaurant to name a few. 

The Cyril B Romney Pier Park on the main island of Tortola, is set to be the hub for this New Year’s Eve celebration. Home to many top tier fashion and jewelry stores, and an array of restaurants and foodie stops, this locale will come to life tonight. Set to be a family favourite with dinners, movie showings and fun rides. A vast array of entertainment will take you through the night and into the early hours of the morning: Xtreme Band, VIBE and Ova Drive Band. At midnight, revelers will be treated to a laser light show as we count down to a brand new year!

Beef Island

Trellis Bay has become a staple favourite to ring in the new year. With famous spots such as the Loose Mongoose, Marche and Trellis Bay Market Bar & Grill, the options for dining are varied and delicious. Enjoy a Caribbean Buffet at Trellis Bay Market, Crazy Hour and VIP Dinner at the Loose Mongoose and Sushi with Limbo Dancers at Marche.  Entertainment along the Bay include Tyga from SVG and OMG band along with other DJ’s. Fabulous fireworks with exclusive water effects will dazzle at 12:00 a.m to ring in the new year. 

Scrub Island

Just across the water from Trellis Bay, is the secluded and luxurious Scrub Island Resort. Enjoy their New Year’s Eve Buffet – End the year with an extravagant selection of culinary offerings, including a charcuterie and cheese station, raw oyster bar, Anegada lobster bisque, sushi bar, pasta bar, mussels and clams sauté station, and carving station with prime rib and suckling pig. Entrée options include eggplant moussaka, braised chicken, lamb cacciatore, Chilean seabass, and Goan shrimp curry. Garlic & turmeric rice and exotic vegetables complete the savory options. It’s back; and so much more. The options are unlimited. 

The North Sound, Virgin Gorda

Some of the most amazing fireworks across the Territory, happens in the North Sound. From private parties at Necker Island to decadent dinners at Oil Nut Bay, to a more relaxed atmosphere at Saba Rock, guests are treated to fireworks at midnight to ring in the new year. 

Virgin Gorda Yacht Harbour’s More For 2024

This harbour has awakened and is breathing new life into Virgin Gorda; and this NYE, it catapults the island into one of the top places to be. From a Roof Top VIP party where the ‘Who’s Who’ are expected to be in attendance, to a wide range of entertainers including the famous and well loved Rock City; it’s a must attend. Fireworks will light up the harbour at midnight. 

Anegada 

The home of the spiny lobster, and a fovourite, secluded getaway. Enjoy a night of dining and dancing on the beach. Some favourite spots include Anegada Beach Club, Anegada Reef, Lobster Trap, Cow Wreck, Wonky Dog, Big Bamboo and so many more. Remember to order dinner by 12pm; the best part of the island’s culture.
