Governor Seeking More Powers; Frustrated With Natalio Wheatley Led Government

Jan 06, 2024 Breaking 1 Comments

The Governor in his final COI Quarterly update to the Territory before he departs, has laid a scathing report on the Natalio Wheatley (R7) led Government.

The Governor in his report has stated that the Government has continuously failed to meet deadlines despite repeated chances, reschedules and opportunities. In expressing his disappointment, he has once again extended the deadline to November of 2024, however, is seeking additional powers for the Office of Governor, to ensure completion of the implementations.

“I nonetheless continue to hold the best interests of the BVI in mind and I believe that these measures are necessary in ensuring that the BVI prospers in the future, with the strong foundations of a modern democracy,” Governor Rankin said.

Governor Rankin stated that he would be writing to the Overseas Minister on Friday 5 January to seek approval for additional powers for the Governor’s Office.

The Governor noted that to date, only 25 recommendations had been completed, with 24 being completed under the Unity Government. He pointed out that one additional recommendation was completed, the constitutional review, and suggested that was so because of it being an independent review.

The Quarterly report suggests that the Government is failing under its Natalio Wheatley (R7) leadership. Amongst other issues in completing the implementations, the Governor has pointed to a lack of prioritisation by the sitting Administration.

The Territory held elections in April of 2023, ushering in a new Government lead by Natalio Wheatley.

They keep wanting him to think they are no longer enslaved, but they have enslaved themselves. THEY think the B is far more important than the VI. But most of you do too. And that’s sad. The legislation may only be 70 years old, but the people here are grown. They have forgotten where they come from and the master has come to remind them. Emancipate YOURSELF!
