The Royal Virgin Islands Police Force (RVIPF) is mourning the loss of former Chief Inspector Mr. Wellington Junior Romney also known also known as “Butch”.

Mr. Romney joined the organization in 1973, as a constable and received training at the Regional Police Training Center in Barbados.  He served with the organization until 1978, at which time he resigned and migrated to the United States.  

Upon his return to the territory in 1982, he rejoined the organization and thereafter he excelled to the rank of Sergeant and Station Sergeant, up until 1987, when he was promoted to Inspector and took over the Force Amoury from the late Station Sergeant Albert Mc. Master and became the Force Armourer and Weapon Instructor.  

He also later that year was given additional responsibility of the officer in charge of the Marine Branch. 

In 1991, Mr. Romney, known as a disciplinarian, continued to excel and got promoted to Chief Inspector as Officer in Charge of the Road Town Policing District.  

He served the organization up until 2002, when he retired after serving  for 25 years.  At one point because of his work ethic, he was given the opportunity to act Superintendent, but was not lucky enough to be confirmed in the rank. 

Mr. Romney served as a junior and senior officer in the West End district, Magistrate’s Court, Supreme Court, Road Town Police Station, Marine Unit, the Armed Response Unit (formerly Task Force) and Virgin Gorda.  He was also one of the organization drill instructor.
