ROAD TOWN, Tortola, VI — 284 Media has announced a pause in its news service, 284 News, effective Wednesday, September 30, as the media company says it takes time to “reflect, renew and reimagine” its approach to news and community engagement.

The announcement means 284 News will pause its weekly news roundup, daily news posts and news packages while the company develops what it describes as “new ways to report the news, tell your stories and facilitate national conversations that move our Territory forward.”

In a statement, 284 Media reflected on its role in keeping residents informed and contributing to public discourse across the Virgin Islands.

“We are proud of the role 284 News has played in public discourse across the Virgin Islands and look forward to building on that legacy through new ways of engaging with our community and creating opportunities for meaningful dialogue.”

The company did not provide a specific timeline for the return of its news service.

284 Media expressed appreciation to its viewers and followers for their “loyalty and trust,” while also recognizing the journalists and production crew behind its news coverage.

“To the dedicated journalists and crew who brought you every story, thank you for your talent, care and commitment. Your contributions have made this journey possible,” the company said.

The pause does not signal an end to all 284 Media programming.

The company said it will continue providing sports, entertainment and live coverage while it considers its next chapter.

“This is not goodbye,” 284 Media stated, adding that it is looking ahead with optimism and will share its next chapter “when the time is right.”

The announcement comes as the Virgin Islands continues to see changes within its media landscape, with digital platforms and social media increasingly playing a central role in how residents receive news, discuss public issues and engage in national conversations.

For now, 284 Media is leaving viewers with three words that it says will guide its next phase:

Reflect. Renew. Reimagine.
