Fourth House of Assembly Draws To A Close
Information reaching our newsroom indicates that today, Thursday, March 9th, 2023, will be the final sitting of the Fourth House of Assembly. It is said that the body will approve an unprecedented number of legislations, possibly the Police Bill as well. Insiders have said the session will be explosive.
Further information indicates that the House of Assembly will be officially dissolved on Friday March 10th and gazetted on Saturday March 11th 2023, bringing the Fourth House of Assembly to a complete close thereby setting the stage for new elections, a new Government Administration and the convening of the Fifth House of Assembly.
The people of the Virgin Islands have labeled the Fourth House of Assembly an embarrassment and the worst Administration to Govern the people’s business. Word on the street is that the territory cannot wait to see the end of their term.
April 28th 2022 shook the Virgin Islands to its core with the arrest of the sitting Premier Andrew Fahie at the Opa Locka Airport in Florida, an airport synonymous with drug trafficking activities. The then sitting Premier was held for attempted drug trafficking and money laundering, and later, charges of racketeering.
Under the Fahie Administration, the Territory also came under a COI and was branded the most corrupt Administration. The following weeks and months through audits initiated by Governor Rankin, unfolded a number of questionable activities, with the past week seeing a leaked report of grants given out from the Premier’s Office. Grants equaling millions and millions of dollars of the people’s money. Also released over the past week were the Auditor General’s report on the EZ Shipping and Claude Skelton Cline contracts. In a press conference on Friday March 3rd, the Governor indicated that he had handed the audits over to the Attorney General, DPP’s Office and Police for identification of any criminal charges.
Our news room understands that elections will be called on Tuesday April 11th 2023, however this has not been verified. Upon the dissolution of the House, a date will be set.
