Flax Charles Integrity on the Line
The saga of Honourable Shereen Flax Charles Government-funded apartment continues.
On Friday, February 24th ,during the PVIM’s launch press conference, Honourable Shereen Flax Charles was asked by our media house whether she was given an apartment during her tenure as an elected Representative, how often she has used it over the past four years, and whether it was indeed value for money.
The Member did not confirm the use of the apartment but confirmed it was given for use for two Representatives from Virgin Gorda.
Honourable Vincent Wheatley confirmed in the House of Assembly last night March 9th that he has never used the apartment and has no idea where it is even located.
Guavaberry Media House was informed that the Member, Honourable Flax Charles has allowed her son to live in the Government funded apartment. We were unable to substantiate for how long this has been the case but we understand that it is more than a year. The Apartment in question costs the Government some $2500 per month, $30k annually. In four years, the apartment would have cost the Government’s purse some $120k.
Guavaberry Media has attempted to get the matter clear from the sitting Member, but has been unable to date.
Honourable Shereen Flax Charles has left the VIP to contest the upcoming election with the PVIM, whose slogan speaks to integrity and accountability, BUT is Flax Charles integrity on the line with this matter? There are those who feel that her actions are an abuse of her office and that the Government’s purse should be refunded for the time that her son has lived in the apartment. The abuse of Government funds and resources is also in question with her keeping the apartment but not using it for the past four years.
