With the love of a true patriot, I come to you today, 11th March 2023. I am a Daughter of the Soil, who has grown up in Scatilffe Alley with a vested interest in serving and saving the community that raised me.
My grandparents, Anesta (Nessy) Francis and Luther Scatliffe, played a vital role in District 4 through their service and contributions, and I feel compelled to follow in their footsteps. I wish to contribute my skills, experience, and knowledge while working tirelessly toward the happiness of the residents of the constituency of District 4.
This is my neighborhood, and I can't help but feel protective when returning, after a few years away, to the concerns of many of my former students, friends, colleagues, and family. Through many interactions while volunteering, I kept hearing stories of the lack of development and neglect of my community. It left me in disbelief; then, I experienced them myself.
Early on, I understood the importance of being prepared for what we have to face in life. Resting on that understanding, I became an educator, like so many members of my family...in my quest for that knowledge.
I left home for several years. Since returning, I have had the opportunity to interact with many.
I am disappointed by the leaders entrusted with the infrastructure and well-being of the people in the 4th District. This is our neighborhood!
The world is changing, and we need to change our leadership and the toxic mentality that has held our district in a stranglehold, preventing our constituency from shining to the rest of our Territory.
I cannot, in good conscience, let our community continue with representation that continues to ignore our children and their future. I cannot let us go back to leadership that has not made maintaining and improving our infrastructure a priority. I cannot let us go back to putting someone in charge who does not care for the poor, the mental health of our residents, or the dangerous, raw sewage pouring into our community. This is why I am declaring my candidacy for the seat of District 4. Together we can move forward and correct the injustices that my people have faced with the mantra ‘Integrity over Influence.’
I am not a politician or a member of the old guard, and this is my biggest asset. The old guard has let us down and has nearly broken our nation with corruption, neglect of the common man, and incompetence. Both parties did their part to bring us to the brink and embarrass our little Island. I am a Mother, Wife, Educator and Entrepreneur who understands that change cannot come from one being outside the system but from thinking outside the box. I will start by putting the people first and treating the 4th District with the respect and care it deserves.
I am Rosita Scatliffe-Thompson, and this is my Declaration, as a 2023 Independent Candidate, for the 4th District, in this year's election.
