AC Crisis Affecting The Dr. D. Orlando Smith Hospital
In a press release issued, the BVI Health Services Authority (BVIHSA) is informing the public of ongoing issues with the air conditioning (AC) system at the Dr. D Orlando Smith Hospital.
Due to a system control software issue of the AC chilling unit, the hospital is experiencing a temperature control issue that is resulting in on and off cooling cycles.
Some weeks ago, our newsroom was contacted by patients experiencing discomfort due to AC issues on the fourth floor of the said hospital. They complained of experiencing unbearable heat.
BVIHSA is asking the public for patience as it maneuvers the matter, further advising that the required parts and software have been ordered. The technician is expected in the Territory once the parts have arrived. A timeline has not been given.
As a result of the ongoing issues, adjustments have been; specifically to the Pharmacy and elective procedures.
“Specifically, we regret to inform the public that all elective surgeries are temporarily on hold and only emergency procedures will be accommodated. Additionally, changes will be made to our pharmacy outpatient services. The public is advised to send in medication orders using WhatsApp at (284) 440-1726 or to call in refills at (284) 852-7556 for pick up on the following day between the hours of 9:00 AM and 12:00 Noon. This change in schedule will continue until further notice.” BVIHSA
