82 Persons Given Certificates Of Residence
The Cabinet of the Virgin Islands (UK) has accepted the recommendations of the Board of Immigration to grant Certificates of Residence to eighty - two (82) persons. However, did not accept the recommendations of the Board of Immigration to not grant Certificates of Residence to six (6) applicants.
This information was made public in the Post Cabinet Meeting papers published Thursday, 25 April 2024.
Cabinet ‘Reviewed’ the recommendations of the Board of Immigration in respect of applicants for Certificates of Residence; accepted the recommendations of the Board of Immigration to grant Certificates of Residence to eighty - two (82) persons, in accordance with Section 18(1) of the Immigration and Passport Act (as amended).
The Meeting papers further disclosed that Cabinet decided not to accept the recommendations of the Board of Immigration to not grant Certificates of Residence to six (6) applicants, who, in the opinion of the Board, have not met the legal requirements of Section 18(1) of the Immigration and Passport Act (revised).
Cabinet has requested clarity on the legal and practical implications of denying the six (6) applicants to be provided in a separate Cabinet paper within two (2) weeks; and directed that the Ministry of Tourism, Culture and Sustainable Development instruct the Department of Immigration to communicate Cabinet’s decision to the respective applicants in a timely manner.
The Cabinet Meeting was held in the Premier’s Conference Room. All Members were present, except the Minister for Communications and Works, the Honourable Kye Rymer.
The Cabinet meeting was chaired by Governor Pruce.
