Reports of numerous fights on the Elmore Stoutt HS Campus earlier this afternoon, Thursday 2 May, has forced the school into remote mode/virtual learning.
In a memo released by the Admin Team of the ESHS late this evening, the announcement was made.
“Dear Parents and Guardian,
In response to incidents of extreme misconduct that occurred on our campus this week, the Ministry, in consultation with the Royal Virgin Islands Police Force, has taken a decision to activate the school's remote learning plan on Friday, 3rd May, 2024.
After consultation, it was deemed necessary to implement this measure as our primary concern is the safety and well-being of our students, faculty and staff. By transitioning to remote learning on Friday 3rd May, we aim to provide a secure environment for all while facilitating the ongoing investigation by the police.
We sincerely appreciate your understanding and support during this time. The Ministry remains committed to ensuring a safe and conducive learning environment for all students at the Elmore Stoutt High School.
We will provide regular updates as the situation unfolds and endeavour to keep you informed of any developments. Thank you for your cooperation.
Sincerely,
ESHS Admin Team”
Several videos released show students fighting fellow students, and in one instance, a security guard was attacked when trying to quell the fight.
Parents and members of the public continue to express concern regarding the outbreak of fights on the school campus.
The school reopened just one week ago after a three week Easter Break.
We will keep you updated on this breaking story.
