Sad news out of Jost Van Dyke this morning. Reports reaching our newsroom early this morning are that a tourist has lost his life on our waters. According to reports, the male tourist hit a tree in the sea while operating a dingy in the Great Harbour area. 

The tree has been in the water since the passing of Hurricane Irma, and according to sources, many requests have gone in to Government to remove the tree, but to date, the requests have been ignored. It is also reported that a light was installed on the tree, but persons are not certain whether the light was working or not. 

It is understood that the male visitor lost his wife last year, and his parents brought him and his son to the territory as a getaway. 

We extend our condolences to the family on their loss.
