CHANTEL MALONE’S BIG COMEBACK

Chantel Malone OLY placed 1st with a best leap of 6.53 / 21’ 51/4” achieved at her first attempt at the PURE Athletics Sprint Elite Meet hosted yesterday Saturday May 11 at the NTC Training Center in Clermont, Florida. 

Malone, competing in her 2nd event of the season and 2nd since recovering from a knee injury and subsequent operation, delivered her best set since 2021 with consistent marks in her flights (6.53, 6.49, 6.52, 6.45 + 2 fouled attempts).

Malone, who made BVI history as the first PanAm Games medalist with her win at Lime 2019 and became  the nation’s first Olympic finalist at the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games, holds the National Record with a distance of 7.08m / 22’ 23” achieved at the Florida International “Pro Addition” International Track Meet, Miramar in March 2021.

Malone’s next scheduled meet is at the second adidas Atlanta City Meet on May 18 as she continues her journey to qualifying for the Paris 2024 Olympic Games.

Chantel Malone is on the BVIOC’s Tahesia Harrigan-Scott Elite Athlete Scholarship roster of athletes on the road to the Paris 2024 Summer Olympic Games.
