INMATES CHARGED FOR WOUNDING
Officers of the Royal Virgin Islands Police Force responded to a report of a stabbing at His Majesty’s Prison on Sunday, May 12 after 4 pm. Following the
incident, one inmate who our media house understands to be Shakeel Ryan, was transported to Dr. Orlando Smith Hospital for medical treatment whilst two inmates were removed from the prison for questioning.
Police later charged Andreas Norford who is presently serving 30 years for the murder of Cornel Melbourne Francis, and Essadro Jefferson with Wounding with Intent in relation to the incident.
They have been returned to His Majesty’s Prison pending the next available court date.
In May 2021, five prisoners were charged in relation to a stabbing incident that resulted in the death of one inmate, Nichail Chambers, at Her Majesty’s Prison.
The Royal Virgin Islands Police Force (RVIPF) said investigations conducted by its Major Crime Unit at the time, led to the arrests of Andraes Norford, Essadro Jefferson, Rean-J Christopher, Dee Dijon Hodge, and Kareem Durant.
“All five were charged with the murder of Chambers. Additionally, Norford and Jefferson were charged with attempted murder in relation to injuries sustained to another inmate,” the RVIPF said in a media release Wednesday afternoon.
