Alvera Maduro-Caines Accused of Plagiarism
On Sunday, March 26, 2023, Honourable Alvera Maduro-Caines, Representative for the 6th District, held her campaign launch at the Omar Hodge Fisherman’s Wharf & Park. The launch, however, took a stark turn as Maduro-Caines presented her plans to the District. The plans bore frightening similarities to Candidate Myron Walwyn's, which he had presented via social media and printed collateral just two weeks earlier. As Honourable Maduro-Caines presented, listeners under the live began to comment on the similarities. As they commented, the comments were removed by the moderator of the live Facebook feed, but not before they were screenshots and widely circulated.
Plans Side By Side…

Honourable Alvera Maduro-Caines has been the elected representative for the 6th District for the past 12 years. Constituents have said that the District has been left behind, and there have been no signs of improvement for the District during her tenure. Constituents are asking questions: Why haven’t these plans been presented before? How will they now be completed in four years? What about the past 13 years?
Following the elections of 2019, Honourable Maduro-Caines, who ran under the NDP ticket for 12 years, to the dismay and surprise of her constituents, crossed the floor to join the Virgin Islands Party Government in January 2020. At that point, there were allegations that she was promised the Omar Hodge Fisherman’s Wharf & Park to cross the floor. The establishment was built in April 2021 and remains in disrepair with no real use to the District.
Alvera Mauro-Caines is running under the theme ‘Our District Gaines with Caines,’ with other campaign slogans referring to her as the great hope for the District. The Constituents are saying otherwise.
