TERRITORY GRAPPLING WITH INCREASE IN ARMED ROBBERIES

On Friday 7 June, sometime after 8pm, Officers of the RVIPF responded to reports of an armed robbery at the Bath & Turtle on Virgin Gorda.

Swift investigations indicate that a lone gunman who escaped on foot, took $250 of the day's earnings. The RVIPF is seeking witnesses as they continue investigations into the incident.

Increase In Robberies

Just two weeks prior, on 26 May as the annual Leverick Bay Poker run got into high gear, two gunmen brazenly attempted to rob the Leverick Bay establishment on Virgin Gorda.

Our newsroom has received reports of several attempted armed break-ins in the Pasea/Treasure Isle area on Monday 3 June. Unconfirmed reports indicate that the Honourable Myron Walwyn’s home was one of the homes where the attempted break-ins took place.

Early Saturday morning 8 June, a message in circulation indicated that yet another resident had fallen victim to these brazen attacks on the community.

The resident indicated that on Wednesday 5 June, two men went to her home (on Slaney), beat up her cleaner, demanded money, threatened to rape the cleaner and then ransacked the home, and took more jewelry. This was apparently the second attack on her home in a matter of a few weeks. In the first incident, jewelry was also taken.

According to the message in circulation, the incident was reported to the Police.

A press release received from the RVIPF late Sunday night 9 June, indicate that the Police have undertaken targeted patrols in the areas where the burglaries are seemingly concentrated, and this tactic has already begun to yield some results the release said.

The release noted that several arrests had been made, and some defendants had been charged and placed before the courts, however no names were given in the press release.

Anyone who may have seen any suspicious persons or has any information about any of the incidents, is urged to contact the Crime Stoppers line at 800-8477 (TIPS) or, if overseas, at 1-284-800-8477. Alternatively, you can reach the RVIPF Intelligence Unit at 368-9339.

No matter how seemingly insignificant, every piece of information could help advance the ongoing investigation. All information will be kept confidential.
