Information reaching our newsroom this morning is that Dirk Walters has been appointed to the Events Manager position at the British Virgin Islands Tourist Board.

In December 2020, the BVI Tourist Board released Cindy Rosan, Events Coordinator, with immediate effect citing a downturn in tourism and a lack of funding to continue her salary.  She was the only one released from the Board. Ms. Rosan has been a strong critic of not only the VIP Government but also the previous NDP Administration. However, it was the VIP Fahie-led Administration that saw it fit to relieve Rosan of her job in the midst of COVID. The dismissal was seen as a move of victimization, with the Members of the House exchanging words over the matter, with the current Premier, who was then the Minister of Education at that time, allegedly stating, "Ms. Rosan needs a cut behind."  Ms. Rosan is a 7th District constituent, of which Honourable Wheatley is the Representative. Then Opposition Leader Honourable Marlon Penn came up against VIP heat as he sought to stand up for Ms. Rosan in the House of Assembly.

Ms. Rosan has an active case of wrongful dismissal pending within the Labour Tribunal. On the arrest of former Premier Andrew Fahie and the reshuffling of the Government, conversations were had between the now Premier Dr. Natalio Wheatley and Ms. Rosan on resolving the matter out of Court. On the direction of the Premier, who is responsible for the tourism portfolio, Ms. Rosan’s attorney submitted a proposal to the BVI Tourist Board, their Attorney Sabal, and the Premier on October 28th, 2022. The letter sought for a cash settlement and for Ms. Rosan to be returned to her position, with the latter being a recommendation of the Premier and not Rosan herself. To date, no official response has been made to Ms. Rosan or her Attorney.

As of press time Dirk Walters continues to hold the position of Chairman of the Virgin Islands Festival and Fairs Committee.
