On Saturday 8 June, a forwarded message went viral. The contents of the message referred to a home on Slaney that was burglarised on more than one occasions. 

The resident indicated that on Wednesday 5 June, two men went to her home (on Slaney), beat up her cleaner, demanded money, threatened to rape the cleaner and then ransacked the home, and took more jewelry. This was apparently the second attack on her home in a matter of a few weeks. In the first incident, jewelry was also taken. 

Detectives of the RVIPF are now actively investigating the aggravated burglary that occurred at the residence. 

Initial investigations revealed that two men, armed with knives, invaded a residence, held the maid hostage, and assaulted her. The men then escaped after stealing several items from the residence.

The RVIPF is aware that information relating to the matter has already been circulated on social media and understandably, this has generated concern among members of the public. 

Commissioner Mark Collins wishes to inform the public that although the investigation is still at an early stage, some important objectives have already been achieved by detectives.

“On Sunday, June 9, 2024, we executed a search on a property at Purcell Estate, Tortola, and recovered some of the items that were stolen from the residence. A suspect was also arrested at the same property.” Commissioner Collins stated.

The investigation is proceeding diligently; therefore, it would be imprudent to disclose any further information at this time. The victims of this crime have been receiving timely updates and support as the investigation continues.
