20 Haitian Irregular Migrants Found On Virgin Gorda
The Department of Immigration has reported that twenty Haitian irregular migrants were located in the North Sound area of Virgin Gorda on Tuesday, July 23.
The group of migrants includes twelve males and seven females, three of which are children are currently undergoing intake processes by the Department of Immigration’s Enforcement Unit. The department was assisted by the Marine Unit of the Royal Virgin Islands Police Force to transport the migrants from Virgin Gorda to Tortola.
The department has pledged to continue to work along with other law enforcement agencies and the community with an aim to minimising human smuggling within and through the Territory’s waters.
Acting Chief Immigration Officer Ms. Nadia Demming-Hodge is urging the public who may have information relating to the migrants to contact the Department of Immigration at 468-4705, 468-4754 or the Royal Virgin Islands Police Force Hotline at 311.
