VIP Leadership Seeking to Reconvene 4th House of Assembly
Information reaching our newsroom is that the Premier, Dr. Natalio Wheatley, is looking to reconvene the 4th House of Assembly to clarify statuses given out under the Fast Track Belongers programme.
Our newsroom understands that a report received from the Attorney General’s Office has indicated serious issues within the granting of statuses under the fast track programme done under the Andrew Fahie lead Administration in 2020. Some of the issues are grave as a large number of persons receiving status who had not applied and others receiving who did not qualify. The programme saw some 1500 plus persons issued statuses that are now in question, and we understand that the Premier is seeking to have the matter clarified so that the individuals, although the issues are serious, would still be allowed to vote in the upcoming elections, as opposed to striking them from the elections list until the matter is rectified.
The investigation and review of the statuses were done under Chapter 10, recommendation B33 of the COI Report.
The question now arises, should the House reconvene, will the Retirement Bill ‘Greedy Bill’ be put on the table as well, given the outrage by the people?
The Constitution states that the House of Assembly may only reconvene in the event of a national emergency.
