BVI May Only Meet Some Aspects Of COI Deadline - Premier Leaving Rest To God
In an interview held on ZBVI Radio, Premier Dr Natalio Wheatley was asked if the BVI would meet the looming COI deadline, to which the Premier responded ‘it should be left to God.’ The Premier said that the Government was working hard but placed the outcome in the hands of divine power.
“There’s no need to be nervous, God is in control … We do our best and we leave the rest to God,” Premier Wheatley said.
The Commission of Inquiry (COI) implementation deadline, is set for the end of this week, 31st August.
“We have Cabinet on Wednesday, we have a number of actions to take place that we’re working on, and of course, by Friday, we’ll let persons know how far we’ve gotten with all of our obligations,” the Premier said.
The Premier has issued an invitation to the Press for a press conference on Friday August 30th.
During the ZBVI interview, the Premier assured residents that his Government has been making steady progress on implementing the COI recommendations.
“We see the light at the end of the tunnel, and we are steadily pushing for progress, as much progress as possible,” Dr Wheatley said. “Let’s wait until Friday comes, and then we can see how far we’ve gotten to.”
The Governor assented to two of the most recent legislations over the past couple days; The Crown Lands Management Act 2024, and the Public Assistants (Amendment) Act 2024.
The Territory remains on edge with the looming deadline.
