The Governor’s Office is delighted to announce that it is now accepting applications for the Future Fund, which is designed support projects in the Virgin Islands that promote youth empowerment and good governance.

The Governor’s Office welcomes applications from organisations, or partnerships across organisations, for projects up to the value of $10,000. The Future Fund has been established with support from the UK government and totals $50,000.

Youth Empowerment

This grant  programme is for registered or established Virgin Islands Non-Profit Organisations. Organisations or partnerships can apply for funding to encourage local youths to develop new skills or encourage pathways into future work. Projects should help more local youths have positive experiences and develop new skills that encourage them to explore job opportunities for example in tourism, environment, agriculture, sports and other sectors relevant to the BVI’s sustainable development, economic growth and overall wellbeing.

The target age for these activities is 13 to 21-year-olds.

Good Governance

The grant programme is also inviting applications from registered VI Non-Profit Organisations, schools, community groups to encourage political accountability and good governance. For example, citizen journalism initiatives, the promotion and development of media codes of conduct, transparency projects on how public money is spent and upskilling journalists or influencers who use their platforms to actively participate in the democratic system and hold leaders to account.

The projects will therefore contribute to the delivery of the Virgin Islands National Sustainable Development Plan goal: Islanders are empowered for a Sustainable Future in an Inclusive Vibrant Society, Living Fulfilling Lives.

Project partners can be included in more than one application, but there should only be one application per project lead.

Commenting on the announcement, Governor Daniel Pruce, said: “I’m proud to announce this important investment in the future growth of the Virgin Islands. As I outlined in my swearing in speech, I am committed to supporting efforts to build a better future for the youth of the Virgin Islands. I encourage all those who are eligible to apply to please take advantage of this wonderful opportunity.”
