The brand new ESHS school year has been smeared by accusations of sexual molestation/harassment by a male Physical Education Teacher, towards a male student.
Reports to our newsroom are of an incident that occurred on the school campus very early last week involving the outbursts of a male student. The student had apparently wielded a physical attack on the vehicle of a male Teacher. Upon investigation, the student was expressing anger in knowing the Teacher was back on the campus, and he would have to see or face the Teacher daily, because the Teacher has been allegedly sexually abusing the said student.
Our media house understands that the matter is under investigation, however, the Teacher remains on duty, as a Teacher at the school. Further shared information is that the Teacher will not have any interactions with the student, and the student will not be in any of the Teacher’s classes.
We understand however, that this is an ongoing situation with the Teacher and there have been many accusations over several years, against the same said Teacher.
Parents and others familiar with the situation have expressed their displeasure and concern to our newsroom, given that the Teacher has been allowed to remain on the job and interacting with and having access to other students despite the egregious nature of the said allegations against him.
Culture Of Suppressed Sexual Abuse
There is a noted silent accepted culture of sexual harassment in the Virgin Islands ranging from child sexual abuse to sexual abuse across the private and public sector, including the highest echelons of Government.
The Honourable Stacey Mather has expressed his urgency to have a Sex Offenders Registry for the Territory and continues to be an avid activist against child sexual abuse and harassment.
Acting CEO of the Ministry of Education, Orlandette Crabbe when contacted on the matter, said that she could not comment.
