The controversy over whether a Teacher should be sent home pending the results of an alleged ongoing sexual assault on a student, has reached a fever pitch.
Information on the matter was brought into the public light when our media house released an article on Saturday September 14th, surrounding the alleged matter.
Local Activist Cindy Rosan took to her social media platform on Monday September 16th to raise further awareness on the egregious matter and ask for the Minister responsible for the subject, Honourable Sharie DeCastro, the Ag. CEO of the Ministry of Education, Orlandette Crabbe, and the Principal of the ESHS to act in the matter by removing the Teacher from the school pending the outcome of the investigation.
In a further turn of events, information released by a private person on one of the local social media community boards, went viral yesterday Thursday September 19th, forcing the Ministry of Education to respond to the allegations.
“The Ministry of Education, Youth Affairs, and Sports is aware of a serious allegation involving a teacher and a student. We understand the urgent need to address this matter and the Ministry is following the proper process, which includes the Royal Virgin Islands Police Force, the Social Development Department and the Teaching Service Commission.
In the interim, measures have been put in place to ensure the safety of the school community. The Ministry is committed to handling the matter in a way that is fair to all parties and in accordance with law.” the Ministry stated in their released statement
However, this statement has further enraged Parents and the public, with feedback to our newsroom calling the statement ‘vague and unacceptable.’
Pedophilia And Other Sexual Crimes Practiced And Protected In High Places?
One local online news site used its platform to mount a personal attack on the owner of Guavaberry Media, another local online news site, for reporting the egregious matter.
However, it was just a short few months ago when the owner of the same said news site went viral due to images and videos that were shared on a social media platform, supposedly exposing and accusing the same said news site owner of alleged pedophilia behaviour.
Our newsroom learned this week that the Teacher is still at school but on a week voluntary leave, and is expected back to school on Monday September 23rd.
Parents are calling for a protest should the Teacher return to the school before the investigation is concluded.
