Newly Formed United Alliance Wins Elections In Montserrat
Reuben Meade has been ushered back into the seat of leadership this morning after General Elections on the island of Montserrat yesterday October 24, 2024. His team, the newly formed United Alliance, has taken five (5) of the nine seats required to secure the majority. Meade’s additional team members winning their constituencies include John Osborne, Dr. Ingrid Buffonge, Veronica Dorsette-Hector and Dwayne Hixon.
The Premier Easton Taylor-Farrell of the Movement for Change and Prosperity lost his seat and was not re-elected. His party was only able to secure one seat in the new elections, sending the message that the people had lost full confidence in his Government.
The new, soon to be sworn in Premier Meade said in an interview early this morning, that he is hoping to work with other members elected, to form a new Government for the island, and will be reaching across the aisle.
Reuben Theodore Meade served as the island's first Premier between 2010 and 2014. He previously served as Chief Minister between 1991 and 1996 and 2009 to 2010, and is a former member of the Movement for Change and Prosperity (MCAP).
