Public Officers across the Virgin Islands will be observing Public Service Week 2024 from November 10 to 16 under the theme, “Unity in Service: Our Public Service Standing Together”.

The week is observed annually with an aim of encouraging togetherness through friendly competition and activities. The week also provides opportunities for community engagements and allows the Territory to show appreciation for the work of public officers.

Deputy Governor, Mr. David D. Archer, Jr. said he looks forward to public officers across the Territory connecting with each other and celebrate the Public Service’s dedication to advancing the Virgin Islands.

Mr. Archer said, “Public Service Week provides dedicated moments for us to come together as an organisation and Territory to celebrate and appreciate the incredible contributions that public officers make on a daily basis.”

The Deputy Governor added, “Across the Virgin Islands, about 2500 public officers make daily sacrifices to ensure that the Government of the Virgin Islands services are being delivered to clients. Public Service Week allows us to extend our collective gratitude and appreciation, while learning more about how the Public Service functions.”

Public officers will compete in various challenges throughout the week, to gain points for their teams and for one to be declared champion. Ministries are grouped into four teams, Eagles, Warriors, Panthers and Super Sonics.

This year, Public Service Week will feature twenty (20) events across Tortola and the Sister Islands, ranging from an opening ceremony to a Track and Field Sports Day, Domino, Softball and Volleyball tournaments, a Wacky Dress Day and a Spelling Bee, among others.

Additionally, nearly 1000 current and former public officers will be honoured at an Employee Recognition Ceremony.
