Visa Exemption For Nationals Of Guyana Now In Effect
Cabinet, in accordance with section 37 (4) of the Immigration and Passport Act (Revised Edition 2013) has approved the exemption of Guyanese nationals from the list of countries requiring a visa to enter the Territory.
Premier and Minister of Finance, Honourable Dr. Natalio D. Wheatley, during a Press Conference on 30th September said, “This step strengthens the bond between our countries and the region, facilitating greater ease in travel, trade, tourism and investment. It underscores our shared vision of regional cooperation and opens new opportunities for people to people exchange. Many of our Caribbean brothers and sisters already benefit from visa free access to the BVI and we are pleased to extend this offer to Guyana, a giant in our Caribbean community.”
Guyanese nationals are exempted for the purpose of business or tourism for a period not exceeding six months.
Honourable Lorna Smith as the then Deputy Premier, negotiated this agreement with the Government of Guyana on her discovery trip earlier this year. The Territory is still unaware of the full exchange, and what the benefits are for the Virgin Islands.
