The BVI Airports Authority (the Authority) recently honoured senior Firefighters, Messrs. Richard Penn and Kemuel Merry, who will officially retire from the service on December 31.
The officers commenced their aviation firefighting career in December 1999 with the then Civil Aviation Department and were transferred to the BVI Airports Authority in June 2006.
Remarks were delivered at the recognition ceremony by Director of People and Culture Mrs. Dawn Leonard on behalf of Managing Director Mr. Kurt Menal who praised the retirees for their unwavering commitment.
“Richard and Kemuel have exemplified dedication and professionalism throughout their careers. Their service has not only ensured the safety of our airports but has also inspired many within our organisation,”
Mrs. Leonard also acknowledged their mentorship of recruits over the years. “your contributions extend beyond your dedicated service as Firefighters; you have been mentors and role models to countless young recruits. Your legacy will endure through the many individuals who had the privilege of learning under your guidance over the years”
The event was attended by various members of the Executive Management team and colleagues who gathered to celebrate the remarkable contributions of both Firefighters to the Authority and the wider BVI community.
Director of Operations Mr. Kyle Cummings reflected on the impact the oofficers made to the service. He said, “Richard and Kemuel have both have been pillars of our firefighting team. Their expertise and leadership have set a high standard for future generations of Firefighters and we thank you.”
Meanwhile, Corporate Administrator, Ms. Drusilla F. Fahie delivered remarks on behalf the Board of Directors, emphasising the importance of recognising such dedicated service: “Today we honour not just your outstanding careers but also your commitment to upholding our motto and the safety of the travelling public. You both are trailblazers and will leave behind a legacy that will inspire others who will walk in the part you lit.”
Chief Fire Officer Mr. Lorrie George and Deputy Chief Fire Officer Kensley Samuel who they worked closed with expressed gratitude for their years of service, highlighting that they were instrumental in shaping the Authority’s firefighting protocols and ensuring its readiness for any emergency. Their contributions, knowledge and experience will be missed deeply.”
In their individual responses, the retirees thanked the Authority for providing an environment conducive to productivity and the advancement of their careers over the past 25 years. They were also visibly moved by the outpouring of love and support from their colleagues and mmanagers. The each received a gift bag from the Authority.
The Authority extends its sincerest gratitude to them for their years of dedicated service and wishes them a healthy and fulfilling retirement ahead.
