BVIYHTA Head Shares Moment With PM Mottley While Attending CHTA MarketPlace

Head of the newly formed BVI Yacht, Hotel & Tourism Association Sharon Flax-Brutus had the pleasure of an impromptu conversation with dynamic and well respected Barbados  Prime Minister Mia Amor Mottley Q.C. M.P.  PM Mottley is celebrated not only in the Caribbean, but across the world. Flax-Brutus is out of the Territory attending the annual Caribbean Travel Forum spearheaded by the Caribbean Hotel & Tourism Association, taking place in Barbados. 

In a statement to Guavaberry Media, Mrs. Flax-Brutus commented, “She inspired me even more. The formation of our BVIYHTA comes at a pivotal time for our BVI tourism and listening to PM Motley brought home the urgency for me that collaboration and conversation is more important than ever as BVI moves forward in enhancing our economy as well as the quality of life of our people.”

PM Mottley’s keynote address focused on developing a common strategic vision for tourism, shaping  its mission and creating a Road Map that would Guide the Caribbean.  Her Key question to industry professionals was ‘Are we prepared to be shapers or takers?’

“If there was ever a time for cooperation and partnership it is now.” PM Mottley said in her keynote address. 

There needs to be a regional conversation on labour and capital. “Tourism is the first to go but the first to come back.” she said as she focused on the resilience of tourism in the region. 

“There is a far greater reliance on tourism than we give the industry credit for.” PM Mottley went on to say. 

PM Mia Mottley’s keynote address spoke to Rethinking and Reengagement, and highlighted four critical things for advancing tourism in the region:

Training

Greening

Embracing the Digital Environmrnt

Creating synergies with other industries

The BVI Tourist Board and newly formed  BVIYHTA collaborated on a joint booth at MarketPlace and have more than 40 appointments with industry professionals over the the next few days. 

The CHTA’s Caribbean Travel Forum runs from May 9-11, 2023 and is presented in association with Sandals.
