RVIPF KICKS OFF 2025 WITH KEY ANNOUNCEMENTS AT FIRST FORCE MEETING

The Royal Virgin Islands Police Force (RVIPF) held its first Force Meeting of the year, setting a progressive tone for 2025 under the leadership of ActingCommissioner of Police, Jacqueline Vanterpool. The meeting, attended by His Excellency the Governor and representatives of the Police Service Commission, highlighted critical developments, key achievements, and strategic initiatives aimed at enhancing the efficiency and integrity of the Force.

Governor Announces UK Support

His Excellency the Governor reaffirmed the United Kingdom’s commitment to supporting the RVIPF, with key initiatives set to begin in February. This support will include the deployment of two senior UK officers: one as an internal advisor to address organizational priorities and challenges, and the other to assist with completing Volume 2 of His Majesty’s Inspectorate of Constabulary and Fire & Rescue Services (HMICFRS) law review recommendations. Both officers will report directly to the Acting Commissioner and serve for an initial eight-month period, emphasizing the Governor’s belief in sustained, rather than short-term, assistance.

The Governor also announced that the Marine Unit will receive training, and equipment upgrades under these initiatives, while additional support will focus on changemanagement, mentoring capabilities for the Intelligence Department, and filling a role similar to that previously held by Stewart Murray. Furthermore, vetting across law enforcement departments will be implemented following the signing of necessary agreements. Lastly, the Governor shared updates on the upcoming process for selectinga new Commissioner of Police, which is expected to commence in the second half of 2025 and could span up to six months.

Acting Commissioner Highlights Achievements and Sets the Vision Acting Commissioner Vanterpool opened her remarks by commending the dedication and hard work of the officers in 2024. She noted significant improvements in technology, infrastructure, and overall operational efficiency during the past year, which have set a strong foundation for further advancements in 2025.

She announced the confirmation of officers to the Permanent and Pensionable establishment, marking a significant milestone in their careers. Additionally, she shared the long-awaited news of promotions from Sergeants to Chief Inspectors, acknowledging their patience and commitment.

The Acting Commissioner emphasized a zero-tolerance stance on illegal practices stating, “Under my leadership, any officer caught breaking the law will be prosecuted to the fullest extent,” She also committed the RVIPF to increased visibility at all levels, from senior management down, as part of a renewed focus on community engagement and public trust.
