Hodge’s Creek Road Development Hits Major Snag

Feb 25, 2025 Update, Breaking 0 Comments

A matter that has been brewing for some months now, has finally blown wide open, as the Chalwell family moves to fence off their property in the midst of the Government’s Hodge’s Creek road rehabilitation project.

The family, who says they felt affronted by the Government from the onset of the project, is pushing back, basing their shrewd response, on ‘principle’

Issues With The Project - Family

GBMedia has had extensive conversations with members of the Family and have come to learn the following:

  1. The Family is disgruntled with the continued dismissive attitude in which the Government has handled the use of not only the Hodge’s Creek property, but other family property as well.
  2. The Family sought to have any potential issues resolved before the Hodge’s Creek road rehabilitation project began, but Government ‘went behind their backs’ and started the project without resolving the issues.
  3. Government sought to survey the family’s private property without the family’s consent. Placing boundary studs on the property which would have extended the rebuild further into the Family’s property, without permission from the family.
  4. The family tried on numerous occasions to have the Government come to the table to address the issues, to no avail.
  5. The Family had to seek legal recourse by serving a cease and desist on Government to halt work on their property.

Matter Escalates

Yesterday, February 24 however, a video showing poles being erected in what is known as the Government’s Road, started circulating, forcing not only the public to understand the magnitude of the problem, but finally forcing the Government to the discussion table. A meeting has been set for today, Tuesday February 25th.

While the family stands firm on their decision to fence off the family property, the public has expressed concern, some expressing outright outrage over the matter.

“While I am disappointed that some in the community are choosing to make us the enemy, we are not the enemy. Every Virgin Islander should want to ensure the Government isn’t bullying its Citizens, and trampling on their rights.” Mickey Chalwell

He also went on to say that the issue is not about money, but the principle of the matter.

The family is hoping that the matter is resolved swiftly, but intends to protect their family’s interests, and pay closer attention moving forward.

The Chalwell family is well known for their charitable contributions across the Territory.

Guavaberry Media will bring information on this matter as it continues to develop.
