Community Mental Health and Substance Abuse Services (COMHSA), a unit of the BVI Health Services Authority (BVIHSA), is pleased to announce the generous donation of a wide range of mental health resources by Unite BVI. This donation, which includes books, workbooks, games, posters, and other educational materials, will be distributed across several schools in the British Virgin Islands to support mental health awareness and wellbeing among students.
Mental health remains a critical component of overall well-being, particularly among young people who are navigating the challenges of adolescence and academic pressures. The donated materials will serve as vital tools for educators, counselors, and students, fostering open conversations around mental health, resilience, and emotional well-being.
Dr. Virginia Rubaine, Director of COMHSA, expressed gratitude for the donation, stating:
“We are incredibly thankful to Unite BVI for recognizing the importance of mental health education in our schools. These resources, which are a critical step in the conclusion of our Mindful rooms initiative, will provide invaluable support to students, helping them develop coping strategies, emotional intelligence, and an understanding of mental health. This donation aligns with our ongoing efforts to promote early intervention and create a supportive environment for young people across the Territory.”
Unite BVI, a non-profit organization dedicated to creating positive social impact in the Territory, continues to support mental health initiatives as part of its commitment to community well-being. Dr. Sauda Smith, Executive Trustee for Education at Unite BVI, shared her enthusiasm for the initiative:
“Our mission is to invest in the well-being of our community, and we recognize that mental health is a crucial part of this. By equipping schools with these essential
resources, we hope to empower young people with the knowledge and skills needed to navigate their mental health journey.”
The donated materials will be integrated into school counseling programs and wellness initiatives, providing students with engaging and interactive ways to learn about mental health. Additional resources are also on the way thanks to support from,MKS Law, a world-leading BVI law firm specializing in asset tracing and recovery.
